CourseForParents.com is a provider of pre-divorce education. Many state now require that couples who have minor children take an online education course prior to filing for divorce. CourseForParents.com provides this class online.

The main landing site runs standard HTML. All graphics were designed by the client. The registration, payment and e-learning modules were developed by me in PHP/MySQL, JavaScript, Ajax, and jQuery.

Once a student enrolls for the and pays for the class via PayPal, they are automatically logged into the e-learning module where the course content is displayed one page at a time. The user can navigate through the course using the Next/Previous buttons. There is also a dynamic sidebar menu that enables a user to jump directly to any page already visited. Unvisited pages are greyed out and not available in the sidebar menu until they have been visited once.

The course has a timer on the screen that shows the student how much time has elapsed since they signed in. This course requires that a student spend at least four hours.

Once the student completes a course, the software automatically creates a certificate of completion. Once the certificate is created (sub 2 seconds), it is presented to the student for download, stored in the student’s record for subsequent retrieval, if needed, and also delivered to the student’s law firm via email or fax.

The system also has a back-office management module for administration of the course as well as student record management, and an attorney portal where attorney’s can monitor their client’s progress, re-acquire certificates, if needed, and communicate with the client’s staff.

Prior to going live, the course received approval from the Florida Department of Children and Families.

The course is presented in nine separate sections which represent the following topics:

  1. Divorce as a Loss
  2. Permanency of Parent Role and Shared Parenting
  3. Developmental Stages of Childhood
  4. Communicating with Children in a Divorce Situation
  5. Communicating with the Other Parent
  6. Abuse
  7. Legal Concepts
  8. Parenting Time
  9. Resources

A content management system was developed to contain all of the course educational content. This CMS provides the ability to instantly update course content as well as provide the course in multiple languages. The courses are currently provided in English and Spanish.

BkClass.com is a provider of pre and post-Bankruptcy education. The U.S. Department of Justice requires that anyone filing for personal bankruptcy take a total of 3 hours of educational classes. BkClass.com provides these classes online.

The main landing site runs WordPress. All graphics were designed by the client. The registration, payment and e-learning modules were developed by me in PHP/MySQL, JavaScript, Ajax, and jQuery.

Once a student enrolls and pays for either class vai Authorize.net, they are automatically logged into the e-learning module where the course content is displayed one page at a time.

The first course requires that a student spend at least one hours. The second course requires two hours. The student may log in and logout at their convenience. They do not have to complete either course in one sitting.

Both courses collect information from the student as the course progresses. The first course collect a large volume of financial data which it uses to display graphs, calculate the student’s financial position, and aid them in creating a budget. The second course also collects data but in a smaller quantity.

Once the student completes a course, the software automatically connects to the U.S. Department of Justice web site where it interacts with that agency’s AP, in the background, to create a certificate of completion.

A content management system was developed to contain all of the course educational content. This CMS provides the ability to instantly update course content as well as provide the course in multiple languages. The courses are currently provided in English and Spanish.

Prior to going live, the system was tested and approved by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The client has since licensed versions of the software to other companies and operates as an Application Service Provider.
